This session will provide updates on all matters related to CTE, including the CTE audit, updates to CAPE industry certifications, adult education, apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeship, work-based learning, and other department priorities.

Statewide K-12 Assessment,

This session will provide updates on K-12 assessments for the 2020-2021 school year, updates on the FTCE/FELE program, and updates on accountability processes and measures for the 2020-21 school year.

Opening and Early Learning Update                                          8:15 am - 9:30 am

Join staff from DOE’s Office of Early Learning to discuss and learn more about COVID-19 impact on VPK enrollment, expanding options for January 2021 VPK programs, kindergarten screening results and trends, areas of instruction that need more focus, and opportunities for training.

Act with Urgency for Literacy                                                    9:45 am - 10:45 am

We are in a state of stagnation with literacy achievement across the Sunshine State. COVID-19 will likely exacerbate this issue, potentially widening the literacy achievement gap amongst our most vulnerable students. In our current state, acting with urgency for literacy achievement is more critical than ever. Come learn about the essential actions that will take place to improve literacy achievement statewide to set all students on a path to learn, graduate, and succeed.

Implementing Changes in Florida’s Literacy: The New K-12 Comprehensive Evidence-based Reading Plan (CERP) Requirements and the New B.E.S.T. ELA Standards

This session will provide an overview of two major changes that will affect Florida’s Reading and ELA landscape and how Just Read, Florida! will provide support in implementation.

Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support (BSIS) Update     1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Participants will learn more about the Required Instruction Reporting Portal (RIRP) and the current rule development that incorporates the three health rules. An update will be provided about the ELA instructional materials adoption currently underway as well as upcoming adoptions, along with information about the standards. Resources, professional learning, and events will round out the update for BSIS.

 Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services Update   2:15 pm -  3:15 pm

This session will provide updates on the progress of students with disabilities during COVID-19, including the status of Pre-Kindergarten, Florida’s federal waiver of 1% cap for alternate assessment, and “compassionate” compliance. Mental health activities will also be reviewed.

School Improvement Updates                                                    3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

This session will include an overview ESSA requirements and the tiers of support provided by School Improvement. We will also discuss how schools qualify for School Improvement funds and provide an update on the status of 2020-21 requests. Other topics that will be discussed include the coordination of grant funds and an update on the next steps to continue collaboration with districts.
